Frances W. Grimstad, MD

Director of the Transgender Reproductive Health Program & Attending Gynecologist, Boston Children’s Hospital

Assistant Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Biology, Harvard Medical School

Frances Grimstad (she/her) is a Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecologist at Boston Children’s Hospital and an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Biology at Harvard Medical School. Her clinical and research work are centered on improving the reproductive health of transgender and intersex patients.

Frances has been involved in trans health advocacy since her own adolescence, when witnessing the care disparities of her gender diverse friends led her to pursue a career in medicine with the goal of addressing those inequities. Dr. Grimstad believes in using research and advocacy to dismantle clinical bias and bring more evidence-based care to gender- and sex-diverse patients. She is also dedicated to engaging transgender and intersex trainees in this work.

At Boston Children’s Dr. Grimstad is the founder of the Transgender Reproductive Health Service. In 2022, Dr. Grimstad was the first fellow to graduate from the first program designed to train gynecologists in advanced gender affirming surgery techniques – under the guidance of Dr. Cecile Ferrando at the Cleveland Clinic.

  • My goal with the Grimstad Lab is to build a safe place for transgender and intersex trainees to become leaders in research, advocacy, and clinical care
